What is 1worldspace™?

1worldspace is the only satellite radio service outside of the USA, Japan, and South Korea. Through its subscription-based service, 1worldspace broadcasts news, sports, music and educational programming to satellite radios throughout a global area that includes more than four billion people. 1worldspace is also credited with creating the evolution of satellite radio. 1worldspace was the first to create and broadcast programming via company owned and launched satellites AfriStar™ and AsiaStar™ to deliver 100% digital audio and exclusive 1worldspace created programming to satellite radio receivers throughout Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. 1worldspace was also one of the principal founding shareholders of XM Satellite Radio in the U.S. and is responsible for some proprietary technology and original programming and format structure, which is currently used to broadcast to over 9 million subscribers across the U.S. The 1worldspace Global Content and Programming department provides approximately 10% of the original content music programming heard in America on XM Satellite Radio.

Where can I hear 1worldspace?

1worldspace satellites provide coverage to areas across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Each satellite has three beams, East, West and South. Different channels are carried depending on the beam you receive. Please refer to our coverage map for details of broadcasting in your location.

How does 1worldspace work?

1worldspace uses its two satellites, AfriStar™ and AsiaStar™, to broadcast more than 100 digital-quality audio channels to people around the world who want world class programming that is not available or rarely found on local, regional or national terrestrial radio. Each satellite has three beams and each beam is able to send up to 80 channels directly to portable satellite radios. Inside each 1worldspace Satellite Radio digital audio receiver is a proprietary chipset designed to lock onto the 1worldspace satellite signal in your region of the world.

How is 1worldspace different from conventional radio?

Choice: 1worldspace provides over 100 channels of 100% digital quality music, news, and sports, many previously never available via radio throughout the 1worldspace coverage area.

Clarity: Listen to radio the way it was meant to be heard, in full digital form that can be heard via built-in speakers in portable receivers or run through computer and in-home systems to provide sound quality that cannot be found from terrestrial AM & FM radio. In-car receivers allow you take your favorite 1worldspace channel with you across town or across countries.

Also, each portable 1worldspace receiver is equipped with a data port that transforms it into a wireless "datacast" modem able to download data, streaming video and multimedia content to personal computers at rates of up to 128kbps.

Coverage: The 1worldspace digital signal means no fading, noise or interference. The system delivers digital quality sound in a coverage area of 14 million square kilometers. As long as you're in line of sight with the satellite, you'll never lose 1worldspace's high-quality sound.

Which frequency do you broadcast in?

1worldspace broadcasts in the frequency 1467-1492 MHz of the "L" band.

Is 1worldspace Satellite Radio service available in the United States?

No, But 1worldspace provides four of the original content channel programming on XM Satellite Radio, America's most successful Satellite Radio company. 1worldspace was a founding shareholder of XM, and the 1worldspace proprietary and patented technology is used in each XM receiver. The 1worldspace Satellite Radio Service is available in Asia, Africa, Middle East, and parts of Europe.

Does AsiaStar cover Australia?

No. There is some fortuitous coverage from AsiaStar to some parts of north-west Australia (including parts Darwin), however 1worldspace can not guarantee satisfactory reception in Australia.

Can I listen to 1worldspace on ships/boats at sea?

Yes. Depending upon where you are located and how much your ship or boat shifts direction, you may need to re-aim the receiver's antenna periodically to maintain a direct line-of-sight to the satellite.

How many channels are offered in the subscription service?

Does 1worldspace broadcast television as well?

The 1worldspace system does not currently broadcast full-motion video and programming. However, 1worldspace portable digital receivers with built in dataports are capable of delivering multimedia and real time video, power point and multimedia content at the rate of up to 128 kilobits per second/channel. With advancing compression technology and potential consumer interest, the next generation 1worldspace receivers will have multimedia, telematic and PDA functionality.

Can I use any receiver to access the 1worldspace broadcasts?

Are the 1worldspace receivers portable?

1worldspace receivers are made for home, work and for carrying to outdoor activities. There are many models and features to choose from. Many 1worldspace receivers are lightweight, ranging from 1.5 kilograms to 3 kilograms. They can receive the satellite signal and give you the same quality of sound anywhere in the coverage area, as long as you are in the line of sight of the satellite. Automobile receivers will be introduced in conjunction with activating terrestrial repeater networks in our most important markets.

Will I need accessories to receive the signal?

Most receivers include an extension cable (5 meters) (feet) to allow you to position the antenna. Optional accessories include an interference filter, a Yagi antenna, 25-meter extension cable, and a low-noise amplifier. The amplifier and Yagi antenna help receive the signal when you're outside the primary coverage area.
